Senanayake’s plaque restored on President’s orders (pics)

The plaque bearing the names of former Prime Minister D.S. Senanayake and former Agriculture Minister Dudley Senanayake, which had been removed during the recent renovation of the Iranamadu tank, had been reinstalled last night (10) at the entrance to the tank.

The plaque had been reinstalled on the directives of President Maithripala Sirisena, on the advice of the Northern Province Governor Reginald Cooray. 

The plaque installed in 1954 bearing the names of the Senanayakes’ had been removed during the recent renovation of the Iranamadu tank and was missing until last evening. However, after media reports that the plaque had been removed, the old plaque had been reinstalled last night.

When contacted, the Killinochchi Irrigation officers said that the old plaque which had been damaged had been removed during the recent renovation of the tank and upon restoration, it had been reinstalled last night.
