Rupavahini manages with skeleton news-staff Featured

The Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation functioned with a skeleton news-staff in the past two days, with most other workers on leave to go on a trip.

On December 16 and 17, they had only four producers for the 8.00 pm prime time news bulletin.

This is unlike other days, when there are around 15 of them.

The SLRC has 20 news producers.

With more than 200 producers and a total staff of 1,000, it is also one of the leading state institutions having a surplus staff.

The payment of their monthly salaries needs over Rs. 60 million, the treasury providing Rs. 40 m out of it.

The previous good governance government had planned to make it a profit-earning institution, without having to depend on state funding.

Private television channels have a maximum of 350 employees, with each having less than 10 producers.
