As of yesterday (October 4), 122 independent groups have placed deposits to contest the 2024 General Election, according to the Election Commission.
On the same day alone, 36 independent groups submitted their deposits.
Deposits have been placed for 21 out of 22 electoral districts, with Matale being the only exception.
The Janasetha Peramuna Party has also submitted nominations for the Jaffna and Wanni districts, along with three other independent groups.
The nomination process, which began on October 4, will continue until noon on October 11, 2024.
