The news quotes Basil as to saying that the upcoming presidential election can be won with their 40.2% vote base.
The SLPP founder had reportedly said this during a Local Government representative meeting held at the party office.
The news on the website also states :
Noting that he can win the upcoming election alone, Mr. Rajapaksa has said that this fact was proven at the last local government election.
In response, an opposition MP who was unwilling to reveal his identity stated that even though it was a very brave statement, two criteria have to be fulfilled if the presidential election is to be won with a mere 40.2%.
According to the MP, the first factor is a constitutional amendment. The second is to bring forward a host of candidates from other parties and formulate a program to hold elections.
