Budgetary respite sought for pension anomalies Featured

The Pensioners’ Association had requested the government to rectify the pension anomalies and grant them some respite from the next budget.

Around 170 pensioners have been affected by this anomaly who had retired under circular 44/90.

It is stated that this situation had arisen due to the authorities not properly studying the provisions of the State Administration circular 44/90 and subjecting these pensioners to an arbitrary percentage chart.

According to the association Secretary T. Lakshman Pieris, the President had been notified of this situation.

Accordingly, the 80% salary percentage had been reduced to 45%, the 90% salary percentage to 75% through circular number 6/2004.

Since January 2004, several Pensions Directors had agreed to rectify this anomaly, but so far Cabinet approval has not been granted for this purpose, he said.

However, based on a letter published in a newspaper on December 17, 2017, the President had said during a public rally in Matale that he would resolve this matter in a week.
