Collection of 100,000 signatures for Geneva Featured

The collection of 100,000 signatures for a petition to be sent to the Human Rights Commission in Geneva, commenced from Mulaithivu.

The purpose in collecting these signatures for the petition to be presented at the UNHRC 40th session scheduled to commence in March, in order to obtain justice for the families of those who had disappeared during the war.

The collection of signatures has been initiated by the volunteer organisations established to inquire into those who had disappeared during the war on behalf of their families.

Several Northern volunteer organisations have joined to obtain these signatures while among them are two volunteer organisations from the South as well.

Through the petition they are trying to highlight that there are almost 20,000 persons reported missing during the war, but to date no government had taken any action to ensure justice to their families.
