A group of provincial councillors made this comment during a press briefing held at the SLPP Headquarters.
They noted that it is the leaders who formed the SLL who should sit at the table to decide who the presidential candidate would be and not Udaya Gammanpila or Wimal Weerawansa who are minor parties within the SLPP.
They said Wimal and Gammanpila could make any statement regarding their own parties, but warned them not to try to snatch the rights of the SLPP, by condemning the SLPP leadership and trying to get more votes at the upcoming election.
The press briefing was attended by a group including the Moratuwa Mayor Samanlal Fernando and Colombo Municipal Councillor Dayakantha Perera.
‘The SLPP does not need alliances’ –Prasanna Ranatunge
Meanwhile, expressing his views the SLPP Gampaha District Leader Prasanna Ranatunge said those who claim that the SLPP cannot win an election without joining an alliance are groups who have never contested an election independently.
He made this statement during the opening of the Minuwangoda, Udugampola, Jedipola road which was constructed at a cost of Rs. One million.
Ranatunge said the SLPP had proved to the whole world at the past LG elections that they could win any election independently, noting that the next President and government would be from the SLPP.
