5 more months to GCE A / L examination: A case against the Teachers’ manuals! Featured

It is reported that several school development societies are about to file a case before the Supreme Court on not sending the Teacher's Manual (The resource book) under the GCE A / L Biology stream to schools so far.

It is said that the only 07 teachers’ manuals out of 10 lessons in the biology stream has been issued up to now.

It is also reported that hundreds of thousands of students studying in biology in Sinhalese medium have been subjected to unfair treatment by issuing them in English only.

A member of a school development committee, saying that there is no alternative but a lawsuit, highlighted that they had pestered relevant authorities for a long time demanding the teachers’ manuals.

Some textbooks yet to be given- Stalin

Meanwhile, the President of Ceylon Teachers' Union Joseph Stalin said that not only teachers' manuals but also school text books have not been provided so far in some schools.

Stalin said that 4 million text books are printed in 470 book categories annually and he highlighted that the responsibility of delay should be shouldered by the Publication Department of the Ministry of Education.

He added that the textbooks for this year were to be handed over to schools by November 30,2018 and that has not been accomplished successfully yet.

He also said that Rs.2,400 million is spent for the text books each year.

He said that it is problematic to keep the textbooks for sale at outlets of the Publication Department regardless of the scarcity of such text books in schools.
