Budget will be defeated, ready for general election! Featured

All opposition parties would be gathered together to defeat the Budget 2019 and measures would be taken to hold a general election, said Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The Budget 2019 second reading vote would be taken at 5.00pm today, while the third reading vote will be held on April 05th. Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa had made this statement in response to a question posed to him by the ‘Divaina’ newspaper regarding their plans on the budget vote.

He noted that the TNA too is aware that the budget would be defeated, but certain of their members have become pets of the UNP and are trying to protect the government.

Mahinda Rajapaksa said that the TNA is hoodwinking the Tamil people of the North and East and working together with the government, adding that they are now trying to get the support of several other Tamil parties in supporting the government to win the budget vote.

UPFA meeting to arrive at a final decision

Meanwhile, the UPFA group are scheduled to meet at the parliament committee room at 11.00 am today (12) to discuss the future actions with regard to the budget vote.

The meeting will be held under the patronage of Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa and all UPFA and SLFP members have been notified to attend this meeting.

While the Joint Opposition had already decided to vote against the budget, the SLFP is still to take a decision. However, at today’s meeting they are expected to discuss their future actions as one group and they would also focus on the President’s expenditure heads vote as well, during this meeting, according to a senior SLFP member.

Further, the Joint Opposition party leaders meeting is also scheduled to take place this afternoon.
