The Tamil Sign read ‘Siva Noli Pada Malai’ while the English version read ‘Sri Padaya’.
The protestors demanded that legal action should be taken against those who had vandalised the sign board.
The Hatton Division SP Ravindra Ambepitiya who had arrived at the location had mediated in calming down the protestors without causing any hindrance to the pilgrims.
The discussion was then held at the Nallathanniya Grama Niladhari office where the SP discussed the matter with the Sinhala, Tamil residents and the Trade Association representatives.
The Police officer had explained to both factions of society that they should act with understanding and patience to avoid any communal clashes based on such minor matters.
SP Ambepitiya also assured the protestors that he would check the CCTV cameras fixed close to the entry point and take legal action against the perpetrators.
