Bakmaha Divuruma: State media institution discriminate UNP! Featured

The government is said to have commenced a high level investigation against a state media institution for not having focussed on the UNP leaders during the ‘Bakmaha Divuruma’ anti drug campaign, the ‘Divaina’ newspaper reported.

The newspaper report states that the government had commenced this investigation after having viewed all the CDs recorded by this state media institution. The senior party members had inspected the video footage and reported that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, UNP Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa and Speaker Karu Jayasuriya had been deliberately left out.

A senior UNP MP had met the Prime Minister and notified him that this state channel had deliberately avoided showing the Prime Minister during the Bakmaha Divuruma oath ceremony.
A senior official said that as soon as the investigation is completed, severe action would be taken against this channel, Divaina newspaper reported.

Operation to oust a channel head?

The news heads of both channels told Sri Lanka Mirror upon inquiry that this news article is baseless and false.

However, as it had been reported that during the afternoon news telecast on the day of the incident the Prime Minister and the UNP leaders were not shown in the aired footage, MP Ashu Marasinghe had made a request from a media head to look into the matter. Accordingly, the section of the news telecast including the footage of the Prime Minister had been immediately sent to the MP by the channel, an official told Sri Lanka Mirror.

A head of the Media Ministry is said to be targeting an official of the said state media channel and trying to have him removed, but the President is said to have vehemently rejected this request.
