He said such obstructions done on the instigation of the Tamil Diaspora will only further solidify his victory.
The media recently reported that Gotabhaya Rajapaksa had gone to America to have his American citizenship revoked ion order to contest the upcoming elections.
Addressing a media briefing in Colombo yesterday, the Chairman of the SLPP Prof. G.L. Pieris said there is no tradition anywhere in the world where his request to revoke his citizenship could be affected just because a case is filed against him.
The media briefing was held at the SLPP office in Nelum Pokuna Mawatha Battaramulla.
Pieris accepted that Gotabhaya Rajapaksa had been served summons, but said that filing charges over a killing that took place ten years ago in 2009 is a ploy by the Tamil Diaspora to prevent him from contesting the upcoming presidential election.
However, it is still unclear whether filing such a case would stand in the way of Gota revoking his US citizenship.
Gotabhaya Rajapaksa was served summons on Sunday (07) while he was on his way to a function organised by the former LA Consul Malraj de Silva titled ‘meet the future President’.
