Drinking pipe water in Kaluthara is dangerous

The National Water Supply and Drainage Board has requested water consumers not to drink water from Kethhena Water Treatment Plant in Kalutara since its water has mixed with salt water.

The water board has made the request from consumers in Wadduwa, Waskaduwa, Pothupitiya, Kaluthara (North / South), Katukurunda, Nagoda Payagal, Siluminawatta, Bombuwala, Maggona, Beruwala, Kaluwamodara, Moragalla, Aluthgama, Dharga Town and Bentota.

There are about 3500,000 people belonging to nearly 45,000 families in these areas have been inconvenienced due to this situation.

The National Water Supply and Drainage Board has issued a statement announcing that around 90 percent of the use of water for non-drinking necessities and it has still taken measures to issue water.

The Board says water mixed with salt water is not very dangerous.

Drinking water is supplied around the clock by the water bowsers.
