Visakha Vidyalaya to have a ‘Daha Ata Sanniya’! Featured

Students of Visakha College, Colombo have been asked to observe abstinence in view of a traditional exorcism ritual due to take place at the school at the weekend, according to reports reaching Sri Lanka Mirror.

The girls have refrained from partaking meat and fish for the entire week and the canteen banned from selling same, in order to prepare them for the ‘Daha Ata Sanniya.’

Principal Sandamali Aruppola confirmed the ritual would take place for the good of the children.

She explained the value of ‘Daha Ata Sanniya’ but requested that her explanation be no recorded for posting.

We will abide by her request.

However, Ceylon Teachers Union secretary Joseph Stalin criticized the planned event, saying it was sad to see that a leading Buddhist girls’ school was resorting to rituals, instead of giving its students a scientifically-based education.
