Reasons behind the ISIS attack in Sri Lanka Featured

It is reported that the Intelligence Unit of the Army has focused on five key areas that have led to the suicide attack on the Easter Day on Catholic churches and hotels by the ISIS and the National Tawheed Jamath Group.

They have identified that weakening of ISIS in Middle East has been one of major causes for spreading to South Asia, including Sri Lanka.

In addition, it is believed that extremist propaganda carried out by the ISIS has attracted the youth and that led to attacks in Sri Lanka too. It has been rapidly growing in the years of 2015 and 2016.

Social media networks have also been helpful to radicalized Muslim youths.

Military Intelligence suspects that different new schools created within the Islamic societies helped to carry out the Easter Sunday attacked.

In the meantime, it is believed that disputes among communities have had some effect on the phenomenon.

ISIS had issued a map and Sri Lanka has also been included in it.
