‘Irida’ editor, investor go missing! Featured

Police are investigating the person who has invested in ‘Irida’ newspaper, published by Vijitha Publications Ltd., with the address 338/A, Hokandara North, Athurugiriya.

The newspaper’s staff has not received the salaries since last November, while its editor Mohan Samaranayake has gone missing.

On a directive by managing director Saranga Alahapperuma, the employees had reported for duty on January 02, but found the place closed and secured with chains and padlocks.

Athurugiriya police have received a complaint by 15 employees who had been sacked by Alahapperuma last September.

Eight others lodged complaints between January 03 to 07, seeking three months of salary arrears and compensation if they are to be removed from employment.

Shareholders of the publishing company are telecommunications engineer Indika Parakrama Alahapperuma and Vijitha Group.

Whereabouts of Indika, a resident of 395/2B, Werahera, Boralesgamuwa, too are unknown.

Vijitha Group is facing accusations of illegal activity, while its CEO M. Srinika Nimendra has allegedly set thugs against the employees.

MD Saranga Alahapperuma is married to a sister of deputy minister Tharanath Basnayake, the son of former minister Bandula Basnayake.

He held a top position in the National Environment Authority during the previous regime.
