President Maithripala Sirisena says the armed forces will be deployed to provide drinking water, food and other required relief to the public in view of the prevailing drought.

He was speaking at a passing out ceremony at China Bay Navy camp in Trincomalee today (13).

The president said he had the highest confidence in the military and recalled how it ended the 30 year war.

Noting that the armed forces members have been involved in public welfare work, he said has discussed drought relief provision at a meeting with the defence secretary and the Navy commander yesterday.
