The proposal had been submitted since the Appeal Court had quashed a CEB circular on a salary scheme which was introduced in 2014.
Initially the circular had introduced a special salary scheme known as “E Salary Scale” for Engineers alone.
Following trade union demands, several other categories of employees were subsequently brought under the special salary scale by last year, a senior official at the Power and Energy Ministry said.
However, the Appeal Court in April this year, declared the gazette as null and void after a petition had been filed by a CEB trade union against the circular.
Employees were then granted 85 percent of their last drawn salary until a cabinet proposal in this regard was put forward today, the Ministry's senior official told Times Online.
According to the cabinet proposal, employees will be granted allowances which would be equal to the monthly salary they had been paid before the circular was issued in 2014.
The approval of the Attorney General too has been obtained in order to issue the allowances following cabinet approval. A new salary scale for CEB employees is expected to be introduced before 2021.
