Pujith to CID : Hemasiri ill

Former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando has been admitted to the Colombo National Hospital Cardiac Unit, it is reported.

Upon inquiry, Sri Lanka Mirror learns that he has sought another date to report to the CID.

Former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando and former IGP Pujith Jayasundara have been summoned to the CID at 10.00am today to record their statements regarding the Easter Sunday bombings, according to police sources.

However, as the Attorney General had directed the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) to name Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara and former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando as suspects of the Easter attacks and produce them in courts, it is speculated that they would be arrested at the CID, it is reported.

Pujith Jayasundara is expected to arrive at the CID at around 9.30 am to record his statement, according to reliable sources.

However, Hemasiri Fernando is said to be ill at present and is receiving treatment in hospital. Therefore, his attendance at the CID to record the statement is yet uncertain.

Despite many attempts to contact him over the telephone, our efforts proved futile.
