Sri Lanka still the best travel destination Featured

Despite the Easter Sunday bombings, the ‘Lonely Planet’ magazine has voted Sri Lanka as the best tourist destination for 2019.

Lonely Planet is the world’s biggest travel guide publisher and according to last year’s ‘Best in Travel 2019’ ratings Sri Lanka has been ranked at the top this year too.

Lonely Planet had reported that the toll on tourism has been tremendous on the island state. According to travel consultancy ForwardKeys, average net bookings to and within Sri Lanka fell 186% the week following the attack.

Already notable to intrepid travellers for its mix of religions and cultures, its timeless temples, its rich and accessible wildlife, its growing surf scene and its people who defy all odds by their welcome and friendliness after decades of civil conflict, this is a country revived, the magazine reported.

Despite the April 21 bombings, we should not let it get in the way of exploring, education and travel and although the country has been upset, but continues to be an incredible place to visit. It still tops Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel for 2019.

The second spot in this year’s best in travel goes to Germanywith Zimbabwe in third spot. The rest of the seven countries on the list are Panama, Kirghizstan, Jordan, Indonesia, Belarus, São Tomé & Príncipe and Belize.
