Easter Attack: " Intelligence Chief called before PSC" Featured

Chief of State Intelligence Service Senior DIG Nilantha Jayawardena will be summoned to the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) probing the Easter Sunday attack on July 24, said the Chairman of the Committee, Deputy Speaker Ananda Kumarasiri.

He made these comments speaking to BBC Sinhala Service when he was questioned about the future activities of the committee.

The Deputy Speaker said that the committee will begin hearing evidence at 10.30 am on July 24.

President Maithripala Sirisena had previously stressed that he will not allow the active intelligence officers to be summoned to the PSC.

Ravi Seneviratne, Senior DIG in charge of the CID, Shani Abeysekera, Director of the CID, Waruna Jayasundara, Director of the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID), Waruna Jayasundara and Inspector Tharanga Pathirana of the TID were summoned before the committee on July 24.

Deputy Speaker Ananda Kumarasiri added that the report of the PSC investigating the Easter attack is expected to be completed by the first week of August.

More than 250 people were killed and over 500 injured in suicide bombings targeting three churches and several major tourist hotels on April 21.
