95,908 leaves country for foreign employment Featured

The Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau (SLFEB) reports that 95,908 workers had migrated in the first half of this year.

Out of them 56,526 or 59 per cent of the total were males and the majority of the males, numbering 16,629, had gone to Qatar.

During the first half of the year, 39,382 females had migrated for work, amounting to 41 percent of total migrant workers. Of them, 14,948 had migrated to Kuwait.

A total of 858 Sri Lankan women migrant workers, who sought refuge at Sri Lankan missions in West Asian countries, due to various problems they faced abroad, have now been returned to the country during the first half of this year with the support of the SLFEB.
