57 housemaids return from Kuwait over harassment claims

A group of 57 Sri Lankan domestic workers has returned from Kuwait today (Jul 29) after claims of being harassed, abused by employers and not being paid.

The workers returned to the country following complaints lodged at the Sri Lankan embassy about mistreatment at the hands of their employers.

Kuwait police had returned the group on temporary passports after having conducted an inquiry.

It is reported that seven persons in the group were not in poor health conditions.

One worker who had been assaulted by an employer had reportedly arrived at the airport in a wheelchair.
