EC disappointed : confirms resignation date Featured

President of the Election Commission Mahinda Deshapriya says if the Provincial Council Election was not held before the Presidential Election he will resign from the post of Chairman of the Election Commission as soon as the new President is appointed after the presidential election.

Speaking to a weekend newspaper, Deshapriya has said that a minimum of 60 days are required to hold that provincial council election.

Accordingly, it should be confirmed whether the provincial council election will be held before August 15, he has said.

If a decision on the provincial councils is not made before that date, he has said that we will make arrangements to hold the presidential election.

He said he would resign if he failed to hold the provincial council election before the presidential election as he had made a promise to do so
