MP Shantha Bandara resigns

The United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) MP Shantha Bandara has resigned as a National List MP.

This decision has been made in order for Bandara to fill in the vacancy created by the death of Parliamentarian Salinda Dissanayake.

He stated that he has a hope to return to the parliament via the preferential votes list to honor the trust placed on him by the Kurunegala public at the last general election.

Accordingly, a National List MP position will be vacant and the President as the leader of UPFA and General Secretary Mahinda Amaraweera have the authority to nominate any person they like for the position.

It is reported that discussions have been held regarding the appointment of Attorney-at-law Shiral Lakthilaka, who was on the UPFA National list to fill the national list.

However, when contacted by us General Secretary Mahinda Amaraweera said that it was an absolute lie.

He said he would make the appointment and the person who will be appointed will be revealed in future.

It is also reported that Lakthilaka's name had surfaced several times when the MPs, who lost the election, were given the national list seats.
