Typhoon Lekima death toll rises

Rescue operations are underway in east China's Zhejiang Province following Typhoon Lekima, which wreaked widespread havoc in the region after it made landfall early on Saturday.

In Lin'an District in Hangzhou City, the death toll from the record-breaking downpour brought by the typhoon rose to seven on Sunday night after four missing people were confirmed dead by local authorities. Rescuers are still working hard to search and rescue the missing locals amid the rain-triggered floods, debris and landslides in the area.

In Jinhua City, rescuers crossed flooded roads and rushed to a disaster-hit area overnight in order to evacuate trapped residents.

In Shanzao Village of Yongjia City, typhoon-triggered landslides and floods claimed 23 lives while also leaving nine missing. Search and rescue efforts are ongoing.

In another town in Xianju County, over 6,000 residents have been relocated to safety.
