235 elephants killed in 8 months

The Department of Wildlife Conservation states that between January and August this year, 223 elephant deaths have been reported.

Thirty-eight deaths were reported in January, thirty-six in February, thirty-six in March, thirty-six in April, twenty-six in May, twenty-eight in July, and six in the first few days of August.

Forty-five of these elephant deaths were due to shooting.

Thirty seven elephant deaths due to hook patches, twenty elephant deaths due to electrocution, slave death due to natural causes, twenty elephant deaths due to natural causes and 90 other elephant deaths have been reported. Also, four (4) elephant deaths occurred due to the train collision.
