Dayasiri's secret letter to Mahinda Featured

Reliable sources report that Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara has made a confidential written request from the Chairman of the Elections Commission to allow President Maithripala Sirisena to hold the post until the end of his term.

In his letter SLFP General Secretary has made a request from the Chairman of the Elections Commission to hold the election after President Maithripala Sirisena who was elected to a six-year term under the old constitution, completes 5 years of his term as he has made a big sacrifice by reducing his term of office by one year and holding the Presidential election.

However, the Elections Commission has not taken a decision in this regard. If President's request is  accepted last date for holding the Presidential election is 07 December this year. However, since the GCE Ordinary Level examination is being held from the first week of December, it is practically difficult to fulfill this request, sources from the Elections Commission said.
