Disciplinary action against Mahinda: Maithri joins Presidential race Featured

With the talks between the SLFP and the SLPP not being successful, the SLFP is said to be making plans to oust the MPS who were elected through the SLFP and now supporting other parties after disciplinary action is initiated against them.

The SLFP senior members are already of the view that the talks between the SLFP and the SLPP have proved unsuccessful.

As an initial step the SLFP has taken measures to initially oust the five SLFP MPs from the party who were elected through the UPFA national list.

They are S.B. Dissanayake, Dilan Perera, Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena, Vijith Wijayamuni Soysa and A.H.M. Fawzie.

All five of them had responded to SLFP General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara and notified that they are still members of the SLFP.

When asked regarding this issue, Dayasiri Jayasekara said that he was not in a position to comment about it right now, but for the moment all five of them had stated their virtuousness.

He also noted that it will be decided later what steps would be taken against Mahinda and the group.

Another SLPP-SLFP round of talks this week - Amaraweera

Meanwhile, the UPFA General Secretary Mahinda Amaraweera said that a final decision should be reached during talks between the SLFP and the SLPP by this week.

He also noted that both parties would be meeting for talks again this week.

He made this statement during a media briefing held at the SLFP Headquarters yesterday (18) adding that it was their desire to make these talks fruitful.

In the event these talks are not successful the SLFP would field its own candidate and the candidate would be decided on by the SLFP Central Working Committee, he said.

When a journalist questioned if that candidate is the current President, Amaraweera said, ‘could be’.

When asked if the statement made by the President regarding the Lotus Tower would be a hindrance to their talks, Amaraweera said that would not have any bearing on their discussions.
