He said that anyone engaging in election propaganda activities illegally from today (09) will be dealt with according to the law.
The number of elected members to the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha is 28. Of this number 17 will be elected at divisional level while 11 will be elected based on proportional representation.
Meanwhile, the postal voting for the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha was held on September 27th at 269 Centres Island wide including the North and East.
For those who could not cast their postal vote on that day, they were allowed to go to the election offices of their respective districts and cast their vote on October 04th.
The Assistant Election Commissioner said that from the date of announcing the elections not a single act of violence had been reported.
Meanwhile, the Returning Officer of the Galle District Secretary Somaratne Widanapathirana said that maximum security has been deployed for the elections.
He said over 8000 police officers have been deployed for election duties.
