Presidential candidates allowed over 12,000 offices countrywide Featured

For this time’s presidential election each candidate is allowed to establish 12,806 election offices throughout the country, according to the Election Commission Director General Samansri Ratnayake.

Accordingly, for the 35 candidates contesting the upcoming presidential election 448,210 election offices could be set up throughout the country.

The candidate could set up an office at his residence and one office each in every district, one each in the 160 electorates  and an office each per polling station. The number of constituencies in Sri Lanka is 12,644.

 Cost of removing posters exceeds 40 million

Meanwhile, Police Media Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara said that Rs. 45.8 million has been allocated for the removal of cut-outs, posters and banners.

In addition he said they would take actions as per the provisions under the Presidential Act and the provisions of the gazette notification issued as per the Environmental Act.

Accordingly, approval has been obtained for the recruitment of 1,045 labourers to be deployed at Police Stations Island wide for the removal of posters, banners and cut-outs.

The Police Spokesman said that three labourers each would be deployed at every police headquarters and two each at every police station throughout the country.
