A Tour of China with a VR experience

The People’s Republic of China marked the 70th National day celebrations on October 01.

During this short period of seven decades, China has emerged as a ‘world power’ changing the shape and future of the world doing good with its economic might and technological advancements.

The country is now known for its technology savvy future vision and how it is influencing its neighbours and aligning them to leverage from the growth achieved by China as a nation.

China has effectively used the technology not only to benefit the economic growth of the country but steer it’s young population towards an environment of creativity and preservation with cultural values rather than succumbing to the negative effects of the technological advancements.

Considering these new initiatives of China, the China Cultural Centre in Sri Lanka and the China Intercontinental Communication Centre organized a visit of a Technical team who are professionals in Virtual Reality platform and broadcasting.

The visit by the Professional VR technical team was orchestrated with the assistance of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Colombo and the Network of International Culturalink Entities (NICE).

As the main activity of the tour the VR (Virtual Reality) professional technical team conducted an exhibition which commenced on October 16th at the China Cultural Centre in Colombo.

Those attending the exhibition had a unique experience of navigating through the virtual environments created depicting nature, landscape, social life, history and culture of China.

Most of the visitors were amused with the experience they had with the VR environments as most felt that they were traveling through China whilst still sitting at the exhibition in Sri Lanka.

Virtual reality (VR) can be explained as a simulated experience that can be similar or completely different from the real world.

Currently standard virtual reality systems use either virtual reality headsets or multi projected environments to generate realistic images, sounds and other sensations that stimulate a user's physical presence in a virtual environment.

The person using virtual reality equipment such as a headset with a screen can look around an artificial world and move around in it to interact with virtual features or items.

This team of professional VR technicians have conducted similar types of exhibitions around the world including USA and Europe.
