5 judge bench to hear petition against MCC

The Chief Justice has appointed a five-member Supreme Court judge bench to hear the fundamental rights petitions challenging the government's decision to sign certain agreements with the US.

Justices Buwaneka Aluvihare, L.T.B. Dehideniya, Murdu Fernando, S. Thurairajah, and Gamini Amarasekara make up the judge bench which would hear the case on November 13.

Three fundamental rights petitions have been filed seeking an interim order to suspend the signing of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) grant agreement and the status of forces agreement (SOFA) agreement.

The Government Medical Officers Association, Attorney-at-Law Darshana Weraduwage, and Ven Agurugalle Jinananda Thero, have filed these petitions.
