SLFP oppose snap General Election Featured

The SLFP-MP group who had met at SLFP National Organizer MP Duminda Dissanayake’s residence had decided to oppose the move to hold the general election prior to the scheduled time, it is reported.

This group had decided not to be stakeholders in the effort to obtain 2/3rd majority in parliament to call for a snap election.

The SLFP group is scheduled to take a final decision tonight (19) during the political council meeting scheduled to be held under the patronage of former President Maithripala Sirisena.

It is also reported that President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa had earlier signed an agreement with the SLFP assuring that he would not dissolve parliament prior to the stipulated date.

Will form a new government- President

Taking oath as the 07th Executive President at the Anuradhapura Ruwanweliseya premises last morning. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said that he would establish a government which would work in accordance with his policies.

Meanwhile, addressing the media at the Narahenpita Abhayarama Viharaya yesterday, Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa said that work should commence as soon as possible in order to rebuild the collapsed country.
