After the presidential election a meeting was held between the UNP-MPs and Sajith Premadasa at the Galle Face Hotel on November 18th and he had stated at this meeting that he would definitely be stepping down from politics.
However, the MPs supporting of Sajith had persuaded him to remain in politics and assured that they would somehow get him party leadership and opposition leadership in a bid to keep him from leaving politics, the Anidda newspaper reported.
Accordingly, Premadasa had met with the party supporters at the Vauxhall Street office in Colombo recently.
However, after meeting with the supporters, he has again mentioned his desire to leave politics and is absconding.
Speaker Karu Jyasuriya had invited Ranil Wickremesinghe and Sajith Premadasa to his official residence recently in order to discuss and resolve the opposition leader crisis. But, it is now a known fact that Premadasa had evaded this meeting.
However, the Sajith faction of the UNP had submitted another letter to the Speaker Karu Jayasuriya on November 27 seeking Premadasa’s appointment to the post of Opposition Leader after their meeting held at Ranjith Maddumabandara’s residence.
The Anidda newspaper reported that Sajith Premadasa is at his Colombo home, but not responding to even phone calls.
Sri Lanka Mirror too attempted to contact Sajith Premadasa on phone yesterday (28) , but he did not respond.
