Iraj's appointment : President's 'hands are tied'? Featured

It is said that president Gotabhaya Rajapaksa is currently said to be in an uncomfortable position, being unable to take a decision with regard to the criticism levelled over the appointment of hip-hop singer Iraj Weeraratne as a Director of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau.
This is because of the online propaganda campaign on Facebook by a group including Mr. Weeraratne's friend - Peshala Manoj. The campaign portrays that Mr. Weeraratne is a learned individual.
It was this group who spearheaded Mr. Rajapaksa's presidential campaign.

However, during the days of the previous government, the Financial Criminal Investigations Division (FCID) had taken steps to find information about Mr. Weeraratne's sister - Anushika Rishni Weeraratne, who had organized promotional events for MP Namal Rajapaksa back then.

The FCID was investigating over financial misappropriations that had occured while organizing the festivities held on the West Indies island of St. Kitts to bid to host the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Hambantota.

It is said that the festivities were organized by Rishini's company - 'Red Cherry' .

Rishni was also a director of 'ILL NOIZE Entertainment' as well as Namal Rajapaksa's 'Tharunyayata Hetak' organisation.

It was also reported back then that the FCID had investigated on girl named Namali who was a dancer in nightclubs and who was taken by Rishni to St. Kitts.

It was reported that 'Red Cherry' had handed over the organizing arrangements of the St. Kitts festivities to the Indian company - Wizcraft International Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., which had previously organised the IIFA awards ceremony in Sri Lanka.
Rishni and Iraj Weeraratne are the children of popular filmmaker Preethiraj Weeraratne.

Below are some of the social media posts posted to support and oppose the Mr. Weeraratne.
