Keheliya, fmr. SPC chairman released from court case

State Minister Keheliya Rambukwella and former State Printing Corporation Chairman Jayampathy Bandara have been released from the case where they faced charges of misappropriating state funds.

The decision was announced today (20) by Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne following an order issued by the Colombo High Court.

The case was filed by the filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption (CIABOC) for allegedly using Rs.230,994 in cash belonging to the SPC to pay the phone bill of then Minister of Media Keheliya Rambukwella during the term of the previous United People’s Freedom Alliance government.

State Minister Rambukwella had then filed a petition before the High Court against the hearing of the case at the Magistrate’s Court, and subsequently the High Court determined that the case cannot be taken forward.

Accordingly based on the High Court determination, Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne today released the duo from the case.
