Immediate measures to import face masks (NMRA)

The National Medicine Regulatory Authority has said that immediate measures will be taken to import face masks to prevent a shortage in the local market.

Speaking at a media briefing today (28), CEO of the Authority - Dr. Kamal Jayasinghe said that local producers have also been urged to increase their production levels.

According to reports, many consumers have been finding it difficult to find facemasks and hand sanitizers since this morning, hours after the first coronavirus patient in Sri Lanka was announced last night.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has issued a circular containing a set of special guidelines to be followed by doctors and other health sector workers in the country.

Accordingly, the ministry has made it mandatory for special medical teams deployed at the airport and health sector workers including hospital employees to use surgical masks, head covers and gloves.
