No meddling in judicial matters - President

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa says his government has ended the culture of political interference in judicial matters of the country.

Addressing the 72nd Independence Day celebrations, President Rajapaksa said the supremacy of the law must be upheld at all times.

The Head of State, addressing the Nation said, Sri Lanka will face a number of challenges in future and requested the public to support the initiatives taken by his government.

The 72nd Independence Day celebrations got underway at around 8am under the patronage of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

The Independence Day celebrations is being held under the theme “A Secured Nation – A Prosperous Country” at the Independence Square.

The ceremony commenced following the arrival of the local and foreign dignitaries.

Following the singing of the National Anthem and the Jaya mangala gaatha, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa commenced the address to the Nation.
