Military operations to prevent rice mafia successful Featured

The Paddy Marketing Board (PMB) has taken measures to buy paddy from farmers without any intermediaries with the intervention of Army in order to allow farmer to sell paddy for a reasonable price and consumers to buy rice at concessionary pierce.

The Army has intervened on the instructions of the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva on a proposal by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa against the country's rice mafia.

Ministry of Finance, Economic and Policy Development has taken measures to allocate to Rs. 3,830 million for PMB and District Secretaries to buy paddy of the Maha Season.

The Army has been actively participating in this program since the 31st of January and r\the  PMB  has reported that 253,750 kilos of paddy have been purchased by the 3rd.

The seven Army Colonels appointed by the Commanders of the Security Forces Headquarters  in consultation with the Divisional Secretaries of the area will inform the farmers through the Grama Niladhari and the farmers' guides regarding the importance of providing the paddy harvest to the Government and how it could benefit the country and its people.
