Casket falls during religious ritual at SLBC! Featured

The casket carrying the sacred tooth relics which was brought for the religious rituals and all night Pirith chanting held at the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation on February 21st, had fallen and was damaged, it is reported.

This unfortunate incident had taken place when the President of the Sri Lanka Nidahas Sevaka Sangamaya Suraweera had been taking the casket for the religious rituals.

Employees at the SLBC told Sri Lanka Mirror that this is a bad omen not only for SLBC but for the whole country.

According to a senior journalist at the SLBC, in the past when any damage was caused to the relics, the kings at the time did not wear their crowns for seven days. This he said is recorded in history books.

The SLBC had organised the all night Pirith chanting to invoke blessings on those affected by Covid-19 (Corona Virus) and to invoke blessings on all Sri Lankans.

However, only around 47 SLBC employees had participated in this event.

Further, it is the accepted practice that the Pirith Mandapaya which is erected for such Pirith recitals is not removed until three quarters of the day has passed. However, this Pirith Mandapaya had been removed as soon as the religious ceremony had finished.

The said Pirith Mandapaya had been erected by the Army personnel.
