Absence of employees hampering 'Choon Paan' sales

The President of the Bakery Owners' Association, N.K. Jayawardena said that although home deliveries of bakery products had been allowed, the success rate had been halved as many workers had gone home.

Earlier this week, arrangements were made to distribute the bakery products to the houses during the curfew times via the network of 'choon paan' tuk-tuks (three wheelers that sell baked goods).

Noting that it was unable to continue work at bakeries due to the curfew, he said that this situation would not return to normalcy with lifting the curfew for just a few hours.

He said that if curfew is implemented for another three to four days, the shortage of bread and other wheat flour based food will worsen.
