Police to take strict action against people gathering at apartment complexes during curfew

Addressing the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) media briefing yesterday, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ajith Rohana said the police have decided to take stern action against those who do not comply with the quarantine curfew.

He said that police have received reports that groups of people gather in apartment complexes and various places in Colombo and suburbs during the quarantine curfew and intelligence officials will be deployed from today to investigate these reports.

The official said telecom workers and veterinary officers are allowed to carry out their work during the curfew and the police have decided to relax curfew for the repair of machinery used for farming such as tractors at the request of the paddy farmers.
