Education is an important area of cooperation between lndia and Sri Lanka. People to people contacts are at the core of this special relationship. ln recent years, a number of steps have been taken to encourage deeper and meaningful interactions between the two peoples.Educational linkages between lndia and Sri Lanka occupy a special place in this framework of interactions.
A large number of Sri Lankan students take admission in lndian universities every year for studies at different levels and in varied courses. The proximity, cultural linkages, and world class lndian education at comparatively low costs have been a major attraction for Sri Lankan students. lndia also provides a large number of scholarships in various disciplines to further encourage and support Sri Lankan students in their quest for a better education. These scholarships are administered through the High Commission of lndia, in collaboration with Government of Sri Lanka. Last year,lndia offered more than 700 scholarship slots to deserving Sri Lankan students, at the"A" level, undergraduate, postgraduate and at research levels. ln addition, under the lndian Technical and Economic Cooperation Scheme
