30 elections postponed - Election monitors

Election Monitors say nearly 30 scheduled elections across the globe have been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Issuing a statement, local monitors said despite the General Election being postponed in the country, several candidates are carrying-out propaganda activities.

Monitors are of the view that some have also used the current sensitive environment to gain political mileage.

They said the Election Commission is also restricted in ways it can take action due to the sensitive nature of the COVID-19 crisis.

Issuing a statement, seven election monitoring bodies in the country have commended the decision taken by the National Election Commission to postpone the April 25th General Election.
