Police issue travel guidelines for tomorrow

Police have issued several guidelines to be in place for travel from tomorrow (May 11).

DIG Ajith Rohana has clarified these guidelines today.

A document in an electronic form (soft copy) or a valid official identification card issued by the workplace is mandatory when travelling for work.

Public servants who travel to work by their own vehicles are advised to travel to their respective workplaces before 8.30 am and private sector employees are advised to travel between 8.30 am - 10.00am. When returning home, public servants using their own vehicles are advised to travel between 3.00pm - 4.00pm while private sector employees to travel between 4.00pm - 5.00pm.

Trishaws and cabs are are allowed for travelling to work, but only two adult passengers (besides the driver) are allowed in a trishaw while only three adult passengers (besides the driver) are allowed in a cab.

Construction sites, beauty salons and other businesses are allowed to resume work from tomorrow, subject to adhering to the guidelines issued to them.

Hotels are permitted to operate but restaurants will remain closed in a bid to discourage gathering of crowds. However, online food delivery services are allowed to operate as usual.

All stores and supermarkets must ensure that social distancing is maintained.

Meanwhile, the system based on the last digit of the NIC will be in force from tomorrow. People who have 1 or 2 as the last digit in their NICs can go to the nearby shop to purchase essential goods.
