Met. dept. warns of possible natural disaster situation  Featured

The Meteorology Department warned of a possible natural disaster situation following the Southwest monsoon rains, which are predicted to start by the third week of May.

A statement issued via the Government Information Department, the Meteorology Department has warned that floods, landslides and strong winds could occur if the southwest monsoon gets activated like it did during the last few years.

The media release further notes that should the monsoons commence, it would be a highly risky process to manage the situation in the wake of the prevailing Covid-19 outbreak in the country.

Since the prevailing situation also makes it not possible to gather public and create awareness on this regard, the department has also urged media stations to provide them with airtime to do so.
