Police protection for fmr. IGPs & DIGs Featured

The Police Commission has granted permission to provide police protection to former IGPs and DIGs.

The Police Commission has reportedly sent a letter on this regard to the acting IGP on April 24.

It is said that a retired IGP has been granted five officers including a sub Inspector while a retired Senior DIG would be granted and four officers including a sub Inspector.

According to sources from the Police Department, there are about 30 retired IGPs and senior DIGs. Therefore, around 150 police officers will have to be assigned for their security detail.

Speaking to media, police spokesman - SSP Saliya Senaratne had said that although such a decision was taken, it is yet to be decided as to how it should be implemented.

Although some officers formerly attached to the Criminal Investigation Department and Intelligence units need such security, a decision is yet to be taken, he added.

He further said that some retired officers are engaged in other jobs and the decision to provide a security detail will be taken after receiving Cabinet approval.
