Due to this crisis, these PCs are unable to pay overtime, uniform allowances and salary arrears for their health workers when paying their salaries for the month of May, reports add.
The PCs have informed hospital authorities only the salaries can be paid as they have not received sufficient funds to pay overtime and other allowances.
Due to this crisis, hospital directors have made arrangements to enable the paying of these unpaid allowances through a special voucher, reports say.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has also decided to cancel the order that temporarily removed overtime limitations of health staff.
Also, overtime payments will be paid only with regard to service activities, Ministry Secretary Dr. M.S. Munasinghe has informed heads of institutions.
There are nearly 140,000 health workers serving in health institutions across the country.
According to sources of the Ministry of Finance, over Rs. 10 billion are spent for paying their overtime allowances alone.
