The Acting Inspector General of Police had recommended the appointment to the NPC recently.

However, although the NPC had issued spoken approval of the appointment, approval was also requested from the National Election Commission as well.

Accordingly, the NPC will issue written approval to appoint the former PNB chief - DIG Sajeewa Medawatte as the DIG of the Police Welfare Division while appointing DIG K Aponso as the new head of the PNB.
